The desire at HOPE is that each child is given the opportunity to learn a trade that he/she will be able to use in everyday life here in Zone 18. These programs are part of the core of what HOPE does, helping these children to break the cycle of poverty. Its amazing how quickly these children learn and how they take responsibility and ownership over these programs. HOPE currently offers vocational training through our Beauty Salon, Bakery, Sewing and Farm.
In the bakery the children learn how to bake a variety of items from bread to dessert pastries. They make them from scratch on a daily basis. In the Beauty Salon the children are taught how to cut and style hair, while at the same time they are able to provide free haircuts for the other children. The Farm is fully functioning with many different types of animals including horses, goats, chickens, ducks, rabbits, and even fish! The children learn how to care for these animals and make a living off of them. Farming also includes several types of vegetables and fruit that are grown at City of Hope and used in the meals that served to the children.
